Tube Review 2.8.11

Tuesday night seems to have become police drama night with the exception of Parenthood on NBC. Three of the four shows I follow are the two NCIS series and the third is White Collar – all three showing a law enforcement agency in a different aspect. NCIS is a traditional detective show, albeit, in the Navy, its LA spin-off is about the undercover arm of the agency; and White Collar is about an FBI branch utilizing an ex-con on parole.

8:00 – I fell a bit behind on the night as I tuned in to The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC to watch Bill Maher’s on the appearance. Some classic stuff, including his response to Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s childish response on The View to the simple little joke he made Friday night on his show. My usual viewing of NCIS will be seen on demand.

9:00 – A multiple episode arc to the series NCIS: LA involving Chris O’Donnell’s character Callen that returned to the forefront looks to have come to a temporary close again. The story was somewhat interesting as two sets of bad guys were essentially being played and put on a collision course by a third who had conned his way into both syndicates. It all some how tangentially related to his unknown back story from a youth he can’t remember. The best part of the show, however, remains the interplay between the characters, especially the incomparable Linda Hunt, who is brilliant as the team’s manager Hetty.

10:00 – Just as one serious storyline seems to coming to a solution in the fantastic family drama Parenthood, two more completely explode. The entrance of John Corbett as the estranged and now sober father in town for a series of rock gigs is creating drama from one Braverman while another’s engagement is going up in flames as he realizes the differences in personalities between the two is rather extreme and they blow up in a major argument.

Catching Up on Demand – It was a classic episode of Castle as they explored what they would do if they won the lottery while investigated the murder of a $100+ million dollar winner. Castle, of course was an expert on coming into money, which made it quite humorous. I caught the second airing of White Collar after watching the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, who had a great and unique interview with a recurring guest, Dr Kara Cooney, that is an Egyptologist and gave a great view of what has transpired the past few weeks from someone who works in the archeology field and deals with the museum adjacent to the protests.

Tape Delay – Sometimes I feel like I am always watching NCIS, but that is probably because USA seemingly has a marathon running every other day. I do have to say I am watching the syndicated airings less now that I think I’ve seen most of the series having turned onto it late, but the digital cable will come in handy since I missed the new episode Tuesday night.
